Scouting for Talent at University Internship Fairs

In February, ALW team members attended multi-disciplinary internship fairs at FSU, FAMU and Auburn University. We sent our scouts out to share the ALW story with students from Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design and Environmental Design programs. Ryan Sheplak, Hays Layerd and Caroline Berryman (pictured below) reviewed and discuss students’ portfolios of work, learned about their career goals and interests, and shared expectations with them. Afterwards, we gave thoughtful consideration to the students who ranked the highest based on their work samples, career goals, personality, and passion for design, and plan to select a new intern from one of these three schools for a summer internship with ALW.

Ringling's Glass Pavilion Celebrates Grand Opening

Over 300 people attended the Ringling Museum of Art's ribbon-cutting ceremony in Sarasota, FL today, in celebration of the new Glass Pavilion's grand opening. “The Kotler-Coville Glass Pavilion creates an inspiring space to experience both visual and performing arts. It is not only a gift to FSU, it is a gift to Ringling, a gift to this community, and it will remain free so that anyone can engage with this world-renowned studio of art glass,” FSU President Thrasher said. The 5,000-square-foot addition to Ringling’s campus now serves as the entrance to the museum and box office for the historic Asolo Theater. This project was one of ALW's most inspiring and unique projects to-date; we are thrilled to see celebrate its completion!

AIA Merit Award Received for Residential Design

We are honored to have just received an AIA Merit Award for the design of this Tallahassee residence. The 3,000 SF home was designed to respect the mass and scale of the surrounding, existing neighborhood while embracing a contemporary design inspired by light, simplicity and materiality. "Much care has been given to the floor plan and circulation, emphasizing exterior view opportunities, thus presenting a thoughtful approach to the blending of exterior and interior. Formal resolution of building elements helps create feelings of intimacy within a large home. A light, airy, response that successfully integrates courtyard and the exterior spaces into the experience of the home." - Jury Comments
