A Civic Campus for Public Safety, Service, and Community Connection

The new Tallahassee Police Department Headquarters and Rolling Assets/Fleet Maintenance Facility represents a transformative investment in public safety, civic infrastructure, and long-term community resilience. Designed in partnership with Architects Design Group, the project consolidates critical law enforcement functions into a modern public safety campus that supports the daily operations of TPD while creating new opportunities for public engagement. The campus includes a 230,000+ SF headquarters, a 46,000 SF rolling assets and vehicle fleet maintenance facility, a 48,000 SF training building with a firing range, and a central energy plant.

The main headquarters will house administrative offices, forensic and crime lab functions, a real-time crime center, and backup dispatch capabilities, strengthening TPD’s ability to respond, coordinate, and serve during both routine operations and critical events. The facility is also designed with enhanced structural systems, utility redundancy, and backup power to remain operational during and after severe weather events, supporting Tallahassee’s broader resilience goals.

The Rolling Assets and Vehicle Fleet Maintenance Facility extends the campus’s operational capacity through a durable, efficient, high-bay structure designed for essential service vehicles and fleet maintenance. ALW’s approach uses a pre-engineered metal building kit-of-parts to maximize clear-span space, improve operational flexibility, accelerate construction timelines, and support long-term performance for the City’s rolling assets.

Beyond the individual buildings, the project reflects a broader act of civic planning. Extensive master planning efforts illustrate how the remaining acreage can evolve over time to support future mixed-use opportunities, mobility connections, public space, and neighborhood investment. For ALW, the project demonstrates how architecture can serve essential operations while strengthening the civic fabric around them—creating a public safety campus built not only for response, but for trust, access, resilience, and community connection.
